Looks like Meryl Streep and MAMMA MIA! director Phyllida Lloyd are putting together a movie about former Brisith Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. The mighty Jim Broadbent is in talks to appear as Thatcher’s husband Denis. I’m not going to pretend to know much about British politics, but I do know that Thatcher was a strict conservative and heavy metal band Iron Maiden (no relation to the film) thought she was scary enough to put on the cover of their demo tape, so this could be a challenge for Streep. I mean, look at that picture. Does that look like the face of a right-wing tyrant to you? Maybe. This could go one way or the other. Jim Broadbent is always a boss.
Meryl Streep is, for my money, the second best film actress of all time after Ingrid Bergman. Seeing her play one of the most controversial and complex figures in modern international political history could be a treat. This film could also be interesting as an American in post-Sarah Palin America, sort of a taste-test of conservative celebrity women in political power.
But Lloyd directed Mama Mia!, so I’m keeping my head out of the clouds for now.
I’m going to keep an eye on this for Streep and Broadbent. What do you guys think?

Phyllida Lloyd, the director of Mama Mia!, is trying her hand with politics after fumbling with Scandinavian pop music. She’s putting together a movie called Iron Lady about (in)famous British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, with Meryl Streep in the lead.
