There have been developments of a remake on the film for years now, with the main person pegged to direct it being John Woo, but it now appears that Hillcoat has taken over that position. As to who will be starring is anybody’s guess, but at one point the cast lineup included Liam Neeson, Orlando Bloom, Tim Roth, and Chow Yun-Fat. But if they will all return is something we don’t know at this time. This could be quite good. I have never seen Le Cercle Rouge, but Melville’s got one hell of a filmography and nobody makes a crime thriller like the French. I’m going to check out the original as soon as I can to get a better grasp on what this project may (or may not) look like.

We were under the impression that John Hillcoat (The Road) was planning a film called The Revenant with Christian Bale set to star. The Film Stage disagrees; they announced earlier that Hillcoat’s next film will be a remake of Jean-Pierre Melville’s Le Cercle Rouge (The Red Circle).
