Geoffrey Rush joins Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides

Just before Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides leaves port and sets sail for filming, Geoffrey Rush has hopped on board.

JoBlo says:

Both Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom won’t be returning for the fourth film but Disney has just announced that Geoffrey Rush will return as Captain Barbosa. Rush will be one of only three actors, along with Johnny Depp and Kevin McNally (Gibbs), who will have appeared in all four films.

I am not the least bit surprised to see that Barbosa would be back. The lead off in the last film had him about to head off to find the Fountain of Youth only to discover that Sparrow had absconded with the center portion of the map.

Why woudln’t he be in it hot on Sparrow’s trail?

What surprises me is that the film is scheduled to begin filming at the end of this month, and he is just now attached. What took them so long?
