John Singleton is currently attached to an N.W.A. movie, as well as a few other projects and just in case it seems that the studio behind the film have considered other options.
New Line Cinemas seem to be focusing on three other directors, however. They are: F. Gary Gray, who helmed Friday and the supremely lame Get Shorty sequel Be Cool as well as Law Abiding Citizen; Friday Night Lights director (and super-cool actor) Peter Berg; Hustle & Flow and Black Snake Moan director Craig Brewer. I like that they are considering other directors as I’m not always confident in John Singleton. Dude is hit or miss. I like the idea of Craig Brewer directing the movie but I have my reservations about that as well. Equally as important to the director is the casting. Who the hell is gonna play Eazy-E?! Movies like this attract a gang of rappers who are wanna-be actors to fulfill the roles of their inspiration, but I just can’t stand the idea of Soulja Boy portraying ANY of the members of N.W.A. The Film Stage
